Rules & Guidelines

The Rodeo events and/or rules of the events may be changed or modified by the National Gas Rodeo Steering Committee at any time without previous notice. Whistles and air-horns are used by judges and event timers, therefore, no whistles or air-horns may be used by teams.

NEW in 2017! Championship Team Scoring
Qualifying event scores are only used to determine which teams qualify for the Relay event.
Relay event scores are the sole determinant for the overall National Gas Rodeo champion teams.

2 Person Team Competition | Additional 2 Person Team Rules

  • 2 person teams will compete in the same Qualifying Events as the 4 person teams; see 2 person team rules
  • No age requirement for 2 person teams

Team Names
Team names are used for reporting all event results and the winners. To prevent confusion, we are now asking that all teams have unique names. NOTE: Numbering teams, "Team Name 1" from Company Z and "Team Name 2" from Company Z does NOT count. Also, a 2 person team may NOT have the same name as a 4 person team.

Safety Attire
Individuals are responsible for their own personal protective equipment and for wearing all Safety Attire.
you will not be allowed to compete if you are not wearing proper safety attire for every event. Enforcement of rules and regulations will be the responsibility of the Rodeo officials. The Head Judge's decisions are final. If a team is not ready for their event, they will be disqualified from that event.

All competitors should conduct themselves as professionals. Use of vulgar language will result in a 10 second penalty. Poor sportsmanship will result in a 30 second penalty. Gross un-sportsman-like behavior will result in disqualification. Definitions of “vulgar language” and “poor sportsmanship” are at the discretion of the Head Judge. Decisions of the Head Judge are final.

Only a Team Captain can protest a decision. All protests must be stated prior to signing the scorecard sheet. Decisions of an Event Captain may be appealed to the Head Judge. If the team involved is from the Head Judge's company, the Head Judge will recues himself and the decision will be that of the Rodeo Steering Committee Chair. All protests from the Qualifying Events must be resolved prior to the start of the Relay. Decisions of the Head Judge (or committee Chair, as noted above) are final.

Inclement Weather
In case of inclement weather during the Rodeo, the Rodeo Steering Committee will meet to discuss options. In the event of rain, if three or more events have been completed, points will be totaled and winners will be announced. Safety will be of utmost importance in the decision.

Teams are requested to provide an Alternate

All teams are requested to provide an Alternate, though are not required to do so. The Alternate is in addition to the competing team members. The Alternate may be substituted into the competition for an injured team member. Injured team members may not return to the competition. Alternates not competing may be asked to assist at the Rodeo. *All alternates are asked to pay the $50 meal fee.

Other Key Points

  • Team Fee includes Rodeo participation, Friday night banquet and Saturday lunch for team members only. Team Alternates and guests require separate meal ticket registration.
  • All teams participate in Qualifying Events and the top 4 person teams and top 2 person teams from the Qualifying events and the Wild Card winning teams (2 & 4 person) participate in the Relay. The number of teams competing in the Relay depends on the total number of teams competing and is set by the Rodeo Steering Committee shortly before the competition. Generally, the top 15 4 person teams and top 5 2 person teams will compete in the Relay.
  • Guests are invited to the Friday lunch and evening banquet. Tickets are $83.00 per adult and $53.00 for children under 16 (fee covers dinner and lunch). The guest meal fee must be sent in with the Guest Registration Form.
  • Friday evening, prior to the banquet, time has been set-aside for "trading." This has become a popular time for team members and guests alike. It allows individuals to trade hats, shirts, belt buckles, hard hats, water coolers, etc., which display their company logo. There is no limit on the number of items you can bring to trade.
  • After filling out the team entry and guest registration forms, please mail the forms along with your check to Midwest ENERGY Association, Attn: John Gann
  • Cancellations received up to ten working days before the event are refundable, minus a $35 registration service charge. After that, cancellations are subject to the entire fee.
